Birthdays and Buying

treeBirthdays

I called BJWL--today's her birthday. In her birthday card I had told her about the lunchbox CLH gave me and asked who Lance Link was. I don't remember him at all, nor the lunchbox, just the fact of the lunchbox. I told her about RDC's asking if I was going to keep darkness in my lunchbox and explained about Pajama Sam. I was, honestly, surprised and impressed when she understood why Pajama Sam wants to capture darkness in his lunchbox and laughed at his name. Maybe whoever captured her sense of humor in a lunchbox and has kept in it a cobwebby corner all these years has finally let it out.

treeBuying

I shopped at Ross at lunch. I bought two frames for the top shelf of the bookcase I hope we'll adopt in February and a dress for myself. I guess I really like the style, because when I got into the dressing room, I found I had a white and a green dress in the same style; both had the same white lace. On the white one, the lace made it look like a nurse's wedding dress; the green belongs to that color family of ice pastels that seems to complement my skin. Clinique green, a shade of lavender, a dusky salmon, pale yellow. I now have two dresses in Clinique green, but this newer one is more muted.

The two frames are a single and a diptych in the same style, stained oak and black. I put a portrait of SPG and DEDBG at their U.S. wedding in the single and in the double, one of RDC in the snow after the October blizzard and another of CLH and me at BJWL's wedding. I really like CLH's expression in this photograph. It's not close up, but she looks at me with a lot of love in her eyes. I'm grinning, devil-may-care, at the camera (I was so glad I survived the ceremony without incident), barefoot, with my shoes next to my feet. Which where I prefer them to be if they have to present at all. In all of the BJWL-ful photographs, they're on my feet (around my feet? not on top of them), which is where my mother likes them to be.
