6 May 2001: Still not talking

This morning I woke up late, but to sun. Glory the sun.

Last night Trey and I went to see "Bridget Jones's Diary." I am embarrassed to say we used the valet parking at the theatre, but considering the tangle of metal in the parking garage, I am glad of it. We sat down exactly as the previews began, which is about the best timing I've ever had.

My new favorite movie that I've never seen had a preview and I can't wait for it to be released: "Serendipity," with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.

So. "Bridget Jones's Diary." Hugh Grant being a perfect cad; who knew he had it in him? Possibly that prostitute in L.A., I guess. And Colin Firth back to being Mr. Darcy; he's good as mean Lord Wessex but it's so much more comfortable to have him be nice. Yum, I say. Yum.

RDC and I worked out, Nordic Track and weights, and read Ghosts of Everest, which CoolBoss just lent me. Then we scampered to REI where we avoided buying kayaks, found me a pair of sandals for this summer, and scooped up a load of groceries from Wild Oats. At this last stop I did not buy vegetable pulp to put into the easement, judging the ground to be too wet still after an unprecedented four days of rain. Nor did I mow the grass. And now, at six, it's raining again, big freezing drops of rain just on the liquid side of being hail. This is normal summer weather.

Yesterday to get the mulch I wore my new Lee (gag, yes, Lee) jeans that I like, in cut and denim, except that they're a little short. To the movie, therefore, I had to wear an old pair. My early college roomie Rebecca had a pair from the Gap that I liked and, when she left college after third semester, I bought my own. These, happily, still mostly fit, though they're tight at the waist. This morning on the Track I noticed that the verticle white piping up the sides of my gym shorts remain straight through the full stride on the Track, instead of bending at the hip as they did this winter. I'm trying here, though living with a man who can drop weight as easily as RDC is frustrating. He's about halved his belly in the four weeks he's been trying to lose weight.

Today on the local news, a duck took off from a pond and Blake shrieked a warning. He is not quite a dog, but he does warn us about the various dangers his puny brain perceives.
