On the left, my sicki orthodontist's "before" picture, 1981. If he wanted "before," he'd've wanted me to smile, right, and show my skewed jaw and buck teeth? I'm not smiling in this shot; I didn't smile much in seventh grade.
I think he liked to have before and after shots of his victims to have some sense of accomplishment in the physical change he wrought in the particular victim, since I doubt any victim could have liked him enough to form any personal bond and gratify him thusly.
And on the right, the summer after freshling year, 1987, eighteen months after I had my braces removed. Why I was there a year and a half afterward I don't remember, but it is when it is because I'm wearing a U2 shirt from the Joshua Tree tour, May of 1987.
