I tried to explain my taste in movies to a fellow student at UConn, a perfectly nice man who read, but only Stephen King, which he enjoyed to the exclusion of all else. I told him that I figured he liked Ballroom movies and seldom went to von der Mehden and I did the opposite. The Ballroom played mostly big-name Hollywood movies; vdM showed art, independent, and foreign films. He agreed. I suppose this makes little sense for anyone who doesn't know UConn, but as a one-sentence explanation it worked pretty well at the time.
