Everyone Says I Love You

RDC suggests Woody Allen made this because musicals were the one genre he hadn't spoofed yet. I say it would have been much better if everyone--Goldie Hawn, Drew Barrymore, Tim Roth--had sung except himself. Allen singing, even as sensibly low as he did, only made it pathe. 970913

Michael

Clearly I haven't made many wise movie choices lately. Let's all be the sheep in Animal Farm now: John Travolta good, William Hurt bad; John Travolta good, Andie McDowell bad. The two far outway the one, even with his belly. The one thing I thought of in this flick is that movies should have an additional rating: AM or more specifically CM. Animal Mortality and Canine Mortality would help us all make more informed choices. How else could you ever find anything in common between "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover" and "A Fish Called Wanda"?

Don Juan DeMarco

I fell asleep during part of it. I don't know for how long, and I don't think it matters.

Face/Off

Don't ask. Don't even ask.

Basquiat

Honest about its dishonesty and with everyone you could want. David Bowie plays a superb Andy Warhol.

Secrets and Lies

Really good performances by most, although at least remotely unrealistic and on the whole a Big Ol' Relationship Movie. Not as spelled-out as such flix often are, nor as tediously predictable. I say, though, if you were Hortense, would you have been able to hold yourself together so well at Rachel's birthday party, even if you were so obviously better raised and even if the director did want to focus away from you for a bit?
