Reading: Edward Eager, Magic by the Lake and Knight's Castle

Christmas: Mailed cards. Last night, listened aghast to CLH propose that in future we stick strictly to stocking stuff .

10 December 1999: Eagerly reading

I found a bunch of Edward Eager in the 'brary yesterday. I can't connect to my ISP or retrieve my email by any means. My last and best idea for RDC's birthday is now out of my hands but I have always relied on the kindness of strangers.

HAO and I talked Monday about the honesty of my journal. She says I amhonest, that what I write jibes with who I am. She says I embellish conversations. I guess I do. She knows I lie by omission, but she doesn't consider it lying. Overall I was glad that she thought that, if Speaking Confidentially doesn't give the whole picture, it does give a true one.

"Helplessly Hoping," Crosby Still and Nash (and Young?)

Helplessy hoping her harlequin hovers nearby awaiting a word
Gasping at glimpses of gentle true spirit he runs wishing he could fly
Only to trip at the sound of goodbye
Wordlessly watching he waits by the window and wonders at the empty place inside
Heartlessly helping himself to her bad dreams he worries
Did he hear a goodbye or even hello

They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

Stand by the stairway you'll see something certain to tell you confusion has its costs
Love isn't lying it's loose in a lady who lingers
Saying she is lost and choking on hello

They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other
