5 October 1999: Going to CostCo

This is directly from the receipt

Craisins

Dried cranberries, perhaps too sweetened, but an excellent source of fiber and whatever it is cranberries do for the bladder. I'm trying to cut back on juice

Ultra Lactaid

Good to have around the house just in case, though we never have cow milk anymore. For the occasional run to Bonnie Brae ice cream. Or for ice cream at home (almost never--we have sorbet instead).

Raisins

Oatmeal raisin cookies are, compared to chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, a waste of time, but I want to bake a lot for Christmas this year and not everyone hates raisins.

Red Seedless Graps, one pound

The fruit most veiled with pesticides. Plus I don't know if they're still politically incorrect to buy. But they're very good for you, especially when you don't like red wine.

KS Acid Redr

Tums for RDC.

Isopropyl alcohol

I don't know why this comes in the regular size of bottle. It's out of proportion compared to everything else.

Dial soap, ten bars

Also for RDC. I use Dove.

Nutella, large jar

First RDC picked up a package of three canisters of whatever that not-really-cookie is, very thin crepes wrapped around a hazelnut filling, just a little thicker than a crayon? Then he lit on this instead. He shouldn't grocery shop when he's hungry (he bought beef a couple of weeks ago when he did that) and he shouldn't go to the warehouse store when he's crotchety. He has more craven urges and I am too acquiescent in my attempt to soothe the savage beast.

Crabmeat, three tuna- or catfood-sized cans

Seafood-stuffed mushrooms hold sentimental appeal for us, since it was over another batch almost eight years ago that I first proposed to him (it was also the first time, I think, that I said more than hello to him).

Paper toweling, 12 rolls

Because we buy what's available at the warehouse, we don't hold out for recycled products.

Tropicana Grovestand orange juice

One of life's necessities. I like Grovestand because it's pulpiest (which means that HAO has to sieve it through a tea strainer). Plus Grovestand must be best because it has an orange cap (other varieties have white or green), just about the same color and shape as Blake's ear patches. The obvious indicator of a quality product.

Snowbrush

The latest in a series of scrapers.

Kotex Light Days pantiliners, 164

When I was shoving paper towel, pantiliners, and toilet paper under my bathroom sink, I discovered another box of 144. I wonder if I'll have to buy any more before menopause in 20 years.

Vanilla ice cream, one gallon

See Nutella and Lactaid, above. But a gallon? Ordinarily we never have more than a pint in the house at a time, with good reason.

Newman dressing, twin pack

Until I learn to make salad dressing, RDC wants to buy it as one less step for himself.

Sugar, ten pounds

Only twice as much as a regular grocery store bag. Hey, it's a staple.

KS E/STR ANT

I have no idea what this is. Kirkland Extra Strength Antacids, except that's what I thought ACID REDR is. Some kind of other antacid.

Clout clothes detergent

Again, available though probably riddled with phosphates and bad mojo like that.

Raspberries, six pints

Puddles of drool. They go well with Nutella and vanilla ice cream.

Christmas wrap, 400 feet

Not an interesting but an acceptable pattern. I have my sentimental expectations of Christmas which include a treeful of environmentally unsoundly wrapped presents not all in the same paper. Having so much of one pattern means that everyone who doesn't live nearby is going to get all the same paper.

Triple antibiotic ointment, two tubes

We kind of used up our supply this past week.

Toilet paper, 24 rolls

Divvied up under our two bathroom sinks.

Friskies cat food, 36 cans

For HAO to donate to the pound.
