15 June 1999: Fourth Day

Knowledge is Wealth.
Share It.

Back in Boston Tuesday morning, CLH and I bought playing cards and lunch and played Blood and Guts (whose rules she remembered, as she had Parcheesi's) until she needed her nap. So I read Glamour. That was amusing.

Also we choreographed returning the car to the rental agency, me to Logan, and her to work. I could have taken a taxi, but then CLH suggested the T. "That's a good idea," I ruminated. "Auditorium is right by your restaurant, right? and then I could transfer to the blue line at Government Center. What stop is Logan off blue?"
"Airport."
I could do that.

I'd confused the return time in my head, translating 6:20 EDT (4:20 MDT) to 4:20 EDT. So I had multiplous time. Nevertheless when CLH went to work at 3:30, I did not leave my bewheeled suitcase there and idle along Newbury for a while but just tripped along to Auditorium, which has been called Hynes for several years (as I should remember since I worked (for a day) at a drugstore that catered to the construction workers' lunch crowd). In the station, a fellow ahead of me put a five into the token machine but was shocked to receive 5 tokens and change when he only wanted one token and more change. So I bought a token off him for a dollar--faster than waiting for him to clear out and worth the extra 15 cents--and scurried down the stairs to inbound green. Copley, Arlington, Boylston, Park, Government Center. Hop out, find outbound blue. State, Aquarium, Maverick, Airport. Hop out, up the escalator, into a shuttle, bingo: Logan. Nifty, except it was 4:30.

I called people, none of whom were home. I continued to read For Whom the Bell Tolls, which I like more than I expected. I bought water and snacks. I snagged my boarding pass when the podium opened: a window seat!

And so home, home to RDC at the gate, home to mountains and dry air and my own house and healthy food and my little buddy: Blake was sleepy when we got home but happy to snuggle under my chin and have some headpetting before he went back to bed. RDC said he looked for me during the weekend, walking around and looking into the various rooms. Home.
